Many cocktails (especially pre-made mixers) are packed with lots of sugar and artificial ingredients. This recipe allows you to indulge with your bourbon while paired with simple and healthy ingredients.
Blackberries - high in antioxidants and vitamin C, helps enhance memory, strengthen your immune system, and are great for the digestive system.
Lemon juice - rich in vitamins and minerals, cleanses your stomach, and is great for skin and hair.
Maple syrup - the perfect substitute for sugar, rich in vitamins and minerals, boosts your immune system, can slow aging of the skin, and has a calming effect on the stomach.
Apple Cider - unlike apple juice, it is unfiltered which retains the pulp from apples which is high in fiber, antioxidants, and is very high in potassium!
This cocktail is amazing to shake up for a quick cocktail or make a big batch ahead of time for a party! My trick is to fill an ice tray with blackberry puree and keep frozen until needed. Depending on the size of your ice tray, a typical size ice cube is about 2 T.
makes 2 cocktails
2 ounces Bourbon
2 ounces Apple Cider
1 T blackberry puree (approx 3 blackberries pureed in a blender or food processor)
2 T fresh lemon juice
2 T maple syrup (preferably Grade A)
4 ice cubes
Combine all ingredients into a shaker and shake well. Pour into a low ball or glass of choice. Garnish with fresh blackberries if you wish and enjoy!
