Happy New Year! Have you noticed that with the New Year comes the constant bombardment of weight loss ads? Lose 10 lbs in 30 days!Get flat abs in just five minutes a day! It happens every year, people get excited, spend money in hopes of looking like the person in the ad, then after a few weeks and not seeing results, they get discouraged and quit. Anyone else been there before? I have.
I’ve done the four day cleanse where you only eat chicken and asparagus. I’ve done the replacement meal shakes. I even bought the Flat Belly diet book that claims I could lose 15 lbs in 40 days. It’s exciting for the first couple of days, but then I would start to feel defeated and deprived.
Within the past two years, I’ve learned that it’s not just a diet, but it’s a lifestyle change. It’s not a quick fix. It takes time. By starting off with small changes and attainable goals, I slowly learned how to eat healthy and feel great about myself.
The first thing I did was stop eating cereal. I lived off cereal in college. Sometimes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Eek. But most cereals are filled with tons of sugar, and they are all processed. Now I start my day with a healthy, natural breakfast. Whether that means eggs and avocado, or one of these smoothie bowls, they are sure to fuel you through your day.
