Exciting Reasons to Try an Endurance Sport!

Have you ever pondered completing a marathon, riding your first century on a bike, or trying out paddle boarding?  Endurance sports may seem like a daunting endeavor –but with the proper training and approach, these activities are within your reach!  Endurance sports will take some time but the return is worth it. Endurance training yields fitness, builds muscle and allows you to burn more calories while staying within a mild range of intensity.

Endurance sports offer a variety! There are so many options to keep you inspired and motivated from –biking, rowing, mountain climbing to hiking and more. If you aren’t sold yet to start planning your next endurance adventure, here are some reasons why you should:

  • Fueling: In order to keep the energy for the distances, you can eat while you are adventuring! I like the idea of eating these Blueberry Walnut Scones while adventuring. Don't they look delicious?

  • Cardio: Instead of doing Jazzercise, you can get some Vitamin D in the great outdoors while burning calories!  The word “cardio” doesn’t have to mean the treadmill!
  • Fun: Pick something you think will be fun and you will enjoy.  If you hate running, try something lower impact like bike riding.  If you love the water, try rowing, kayaking, or paddle boarding!  Just because it is labeled endurance doesn’t mean it has to be monotonous.
  • Family: You can do this with your family and ingrain healthy habits into your normal routine.  Family time can be exploring your local park while staying active! Smart snacking goes hand-in-hand with exercise. This Sweet and Spicy Trail Mix is an excellent snack for family endurance sports!

  • Scenery: You appreciate the view at the top of the mountain better when you climbed there. Hike up to a great scenery place and bring a picnic lunch.  By engaging in outdoor activities, you see parts of the world that you never thought possible.
  • Gab time: If you want to catch up with your friends, new and old, the perfect intensity for endurance training is being able to hold a light conversation.  Instead of calling your friend to chat, meet them on the trails for an hour! You guys can treat yourselves to these AlmondBerry Protein Bars while you catch up!

Now that you are all motivated to try your legs and arms at an endurance sport, which one are you thinking about? Why not try them all? The great thing about doing multiple different activities is that you get to see new sights and build different muscle groups without getting bored.
