4 Tricks for Road Tripping with Fresh Berries

It's vacation season! That means piles of packed-up bags, coolers of snacks and excited (or cranky) kiddos. And whether you're driving for a few hours or a few days, it's important to be well prepared for your travels--both for your convenience, and your sanity. My husband and I have a few trusty tricks we've always employed for family vacations, and berries are naturally a big part of it. I hope your family likes them as much as mine does!

  • Got room for a cooler? Make homemade smoothies the night before or morning of a road trip and pour into mason jars. They'll keep cool over ice and the tight lids will keep everything from spilling out.
  • Speaking of mason jars, they're also a great way to transport fresh, delicate berries without getting squashed!
  • Feed cranky kids a sweet treat without going completely overboard--raspberries stuffed with mini chocolate chips are perfect for satisfying a sudden dessert craving.
  • I can only imagine what a car-full of people hopped up on sugary soda would be like. We like to drop a couple of fresh berries into water bottles to give our drinks a little extra flavor, without tons of processed ingredients.

Albeit simple, these little tricks keep my family healthy, happy and full for all of our glorious summer vacations! Got any tips of your own?
