Good Morning Gourmet Oatmeal

Did you know? January is National Oatmeal Month which we think is only fitting with these

brisk winter temperatures. What better to pair with a steaming hot cup of coffee on a chilly morning than a warm bowl of homemade oatmeal?

But we know that sometimes breakfast can feel pretty rushed and routine, so we wanted to give our Buzz readers a few tips on how to quickly add a few tasty ingredients to their oatmeal to make it a gourmet (and healthy!) meal that will make waking up something to look forward to. Whether you are using fresh oats or an instant microwaveable variety, here are a few ingredients you can add quickly to your oatmeal to make it magical:

  • Fresh California Giant Berries – DUH! You can’t go wrong with this choice, and just about any kind of berry hits the spot. It’s like oatmeal and our berries were made for each other.
  • Bananas – Banana slices pair very nicely with berries and the texture blends with the soft oats.
  • Granola – Add a little bit of texture and crunch to your morning.
  • Honey – Honey has lots of benefits aside from tasting great, but don’t use too much!
  • Peanut Butter – Just one spoonful mixed into hot oatmeal is simply amazing, especially with fresh berries – it’s like a PB&J in a bowl!
  • Nutella – Like peanut butter, just one spoonful will make your morning delightful.
  • Cinnamon or Nutmeg – Adding a little dash of either of these spices brings a dreary bowl to life.
  • Vanilla Soy Milk – Try using soy milk instead of regular for a tasty flavor twist and a little less fat.
  • Yogurt – That’s right, spoon a little yogurt in there. Then top it with granola and berries… tastes heavenly!
  • Raisins – These add a great texture and flavor to your bowl, plus they taste great with berries.
  • Orange peel – Seriously, just a little orange peel shaved into your Oatmeal adds a pretty pop of flavor and color.
