Supporting Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through The Big D Climb

Cal Giant | February 3, 2012

California Giant loves to offer support and encouragement whenever others are out there trying to make a difference. Our friends at DMA Solutions in Dallas just completed a challenging climb up 52 flights of stairs (that’s 1,040 steps!) for “The Big D Climb” benefiting the North Texas Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Although we couldn’t physically be there in Dallas, we definitely cheered DMA on from afar and offered our support. Cindy Jewell of Cal Giant made a donation to the DMA team, dubbed “The FRESH Team,” and they were able to raise over 4 Thousand Dollars for LLS.

Check out more about The FRESH Team’s experience below:

“Earlier this month we told you about DMA’s resolution to make a difference together in the year 2012. Now February is here and we have completed our first philanthropic cause as a team: making the vertical trek up 52 flights of stairs in one of the most recognizable buildings of the Dallas Skyline.

You may be wondering what prompted us to want to put our hearts and our legs to such a grueling test of physical (and for some, emotional) endurance. The event, called The Big “D” Climb, was created to benefit the North Texas Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), a cause which has affected most people in one way or another. The FRESH Team climbed for many people, including Brock’s dad, a 25-year leukemia survivor, one of our team member’s students and a friend’s son Rylan, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia when he was only 22 months old.

The Fresh Team, 12 climbers strong, included, in addition to DMA Team Members, friends and family of DMA, Jarrod Snider of Frontera Produce, and Shelly Fryer and Gina Miller, teachers at Ditto Elementary, a local school we’re working to place a Salad Bar in. Our climbers came from all different levels of physical experience, but we all pushed our hearts to the limit and helped each other get there along the way. The FRESH Team raised a total of $4,017 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

We would like to thank each and every one of you that donated and helped us not only make a memorable adventure possible for us, but also make a big difference for Leukemia and Lymphoma research. The Big Climb is accepting donations through February 15, 2012 and you can make an online donation here.

We are so excited that our year of giving kicked off with such success! We’d like to include YOU, Core Readers, in our philanthropic outreach. Through March 1, 2012, we will be taking your suggestions for one of the charitable causes The FRESH Team gets behind this year. Leave a comment below, on our Facebook page, or tweet us the group you’d like to nominate and we will announce the winning organization in March!”
